EMOTIONAL, MENTAL & MIND HEALTH

I AM IN CONTROL OF MY THOUGHTS

We need each other to feel safe, secure, & protected. Those who chose to hurt others, criminals, and who are controled by emotions, thoughts and beliefs that contradict their conscience, peace & common sense may fall deeply into despair.

****Liberty is Explosive****

 I'M A LOVER NOT A FIGHTER

jd, 6/19/10

When you fight your parents, job, spouse, children, church & God it will cause great stresses. Pick your battles carefully and sparingly, because immense stresses will cause some people to crack,

maybe even you.

Why do some people thrive under great pressures and enjoy fights? They're good at winning arguments and it makes them feel great!!

Who knows? But they should do it because it brings out the best in them.

But the fragile & sensitive person should avoid unnecessary conflicts.

"Do everything that is good for you

and nothing that is bad."

"Intellectualizing" is a form of straining your mind, even though it doesn't bring you more wisdom. Learn to say,

"God, I give up for tonight. I've tried to solve my problem, but I can't. I leave my future in your hands and please give me a well-rested mind, peaceful & happy thoughts about You and Heaven."

Take ten deep breathes while you say, "Relax" and tense & then relax your face and scalp muscles.

Depression, Scripture and Professional Aids

Bible Quotes for Depression from the King James Version & Professional Quotes

Continually praising & thanking God will make our minds more positive & lift us slowly out of depression. Those saints in the Bible talked about Hell, Sheol, the deep water as a metaphor for depression. It does feel hopeless, desperate and dark. Only one champion can save us:  Jesus!

“I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing:  I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried:  mine eyes fail while I wait for my God. They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty:  then I restored that which I took not away.”

Ps. 69:2-4 KJV, look up: 5-37.

“Now also when I am old and gray headed, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.” Ps. 71:18, KJV

“HE that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.’” Psalm 91:1-2, KJV.

“Out of the depths I call to you, LORD; Lord, hear my cry! May your ears be attentive to my cry fro mercy. If you LORD, mark our sins, Lord, who can stand? But with you is forgiveness and so you are revered. Psalm 130:1-8, KJV

“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicated forget not:  for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” Hebrews 13: 15-16, KJV

“Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace. Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.” 2Thes. 2:16-17, KJV.

“Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul:  let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt. Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love they salvation say continually, Let God be magnified. But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God, thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying. Psalm 70:2, 4, KJV

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." Ps. 27: 14, KJV see verses 1-14.

“I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.  2. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust: my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.   5. The sorrows of hell compassed me about:  the snares of death prevented me. 6. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God; he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. 7. Then the earth shook and trembled: the foundations also of the hills moved, and were shaken, because he was wroth. 9. He bowed the heavens also, and came down:  and darkness was under his feet.  16. He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.  17. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me:   for they were too strong for me. 20. The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.” Psalm 18... KJV

[Psalm 18:1-50 is wonderful to alleviate a depression episode or at least start the process.]

“My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? 24. For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted:  neither hath he hid his face from him:  But when he cried unto him, he heard. 31. (last verse) They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.”   Psalms 22: 1-27, KJV

“I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. 2. O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. 3. O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave:  thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. 4. Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.” Psalm 30:1-4, KJV

“For we are saved by hope, but a hope that is not seen is not hope: for why would a man hope for that which he sees? But if we hope for what we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” Romans 8:24-25.

Psalm 46:1-2; Psalm 27:1-2; Psalm 23; Psalm 34:19-20; Jeremiah 31:13; Isaiah 43:1-2; Psalm 37:24; Romans 8:18; Isaiah 40:31.

DYSTHYMIA [A Type of Depression]

This a chronic low grade type of depression that can at times turn into a deep depression, but then goes back to annoying sadness. It's harder to concentrate, make friends, study, work and to like yourself. It can last for years & it's probably a good idea to get some professional help. You might have allergies that will drag you down and you should get those treated along with any other medical conditions. Proper & consistent good nutrition, exercise and quiet time are all necessary.  Take time everyday to fully relax your mind and body. Stay away from drugs and alcohol if it depresses you the next day. Avoid people that you don't like and don't like you or have negative attitudes or unhealthy habits. Get 7-8 hours of sleep every day. Take assertiveness classes so you can express yourself without hostility or building up resentments. Study you mental and medical conditions and try out possible cures.

One book suggestion is:

WHEN GOING THROUGH HELL…DON’T STOP! A Survivor’s Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and Clinical Depression, Douglas Bloch, Pallas Communications, Portland, Oregon, © 2000 by Douglas Bloch.

Some good suggestions and insights are given into mental illness from the perspective of Western and Eastern sciences.

You should get professional help, non professional opinions & mental health information when you experience:

SUICIDAL THOUGHTS & PLANS; ANXIETY DISORDER; MANIA; REPETITIVE DISTURBING DREAMS; CHRONIC FATIGUE; RASHES, CRAWLING SKIN; HEARING VOICES; OBSESSIVE/COMPULSIVE BEHAVIORS; AUTISM; DRUG, ALCOHOL & SEXUAL ADDICTIONS; ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR; SELF-HATRED; MURDEROUS THOUGHTS; INABILITY TO SOCIALIZE; CAN’T KEEP A JOB; CAN’T ACHIEVE PASSING GRADES IN SCHOOL; DOUBTS OF YOUR SANITY; FEELING LIKE YOU ARE LIVING IN PURGATORY OR HELL; NO STRENGTH, ILLNESS, PAIN, SUFFERING, THINK YOU ARE GOING TO HELL, FEEL LIKE GOD HATES YOU AND WON'T FORGIVE YOU, PEOPLE KEEP TELLING YOU TO SEE A DOCTOR, PSYCHOLOGIST, PRIEST OR MINISTER, ETC.

Please take the time to look up any unfamiliar terms.

If you’re obsessed & panicking about the possibility of a mental or emotional condition, get it checked out. A professional, lengthy psychological evaluation can be very revealing & helpful for you & finally let you know if you are just imagining a mental illness or if you have one…or two.

The length of time you had it and how debilitating these conditions are to you, will determine the diagnosis. You can have some of these symptoms and yet be a fully functioning human being or as we sometimes say, “normal”.

Your medical doctor can sometimes give you a brief, but insufficient oral psychological exam with ten questions or so. Based on those results he/she can suggest if you might benefit from further testing & which clinics or mental health professionals will be available in your area.

If you have some or many of the above conditions in all capital letters, then talk in privacy & unanimity to:  Mental Health Help-lines, Religious Prayer Lines, professional therapists, counselors, priests, ministers, educators, & Human Resource “Confidential” Psychology Phone Lines. And if you trust others to keep you questions private:  sports coaches, your HR Administrator, your parents, wise family members, or wise friends.

If you are good at understanding & comprehension study books on:  psychology, Assertiveness skills, self-help; spiritual techniques, relaxation techniques, exercise programs, memory enhancement, self-improvement, creativity skills, walking or jogging.

Jogging & other techniques can also cover up depression, confused & harmful thinking patterns, like an aspirin takes away the headache, but the cause is still there.

Christian Protestant/Catholic Psychology information is better for Christians. Some atheistic therapists hate religion & like to pollute their psychological advice with this denial of God & scapegoating of religion poison. Your spiritual & psychological life are a big part of you & should be entrusted to someone who holds the same beliefs as you & yet he or she, the therapist, is healthy, successful, religious/spiritual & fully functional. Most agnostics or even atheistic therapists will not deliberately push their opinions on you and blame religion for your problems, but many will do it unconsciously or even openly. Run from them. There are too many professional counselors & therapists who are Christian to settle for a biased one.

Put your mind and energy into helping those worse off than you, while finding out the Biblical way of thinking & challenging the evil damaging thoughts you’ve carried in your head since childhood or the last traumatic event.

Knowledge is power. Use your knowledge to seek out traditional, spiritual, or self-help cures, it’s your life & it’s up to you. Don't keep using "tools"

& habits that never worked or will never work. Do what works for you. If other people are volunteering that you are improving, you may have found something that works.

If, however you are violent & disruptive, then society will take measures to protect it self from you. If you are a little "crazy", hard to get along with, anti-social or people like to stay away from you, that's ok. Don't make it worse by forcing your presence, beliefs or anger on them. Never use violence. Use kindness, gentleness & give people the freedom to choose their friends, even if it isn't you.

Christianity is helpful & it is mostly non-violent. We blame ourselves for our actions and we confess to others, ask for forgiveness, forgive ourselves and determine, with a plan, not to repeat that sin again. If you are a practicing Christian you can avoid many traffic tickets, arguments, being fired, and jail time; even if you have some mental or emotional conditions.

Find a group or create one in your church to find fellowship. Group prayer, meditation on God, helping others, and anything you can look forward to every week or every month or every year, if it is something you enjoy you will increase your mental health. Friendships many or may not develop, but at least you'll be around people with like beliefs & get to speak to some people & get out of the house.

This brings me to a very important observation:  Decide to be happy with what you have instead of what you wish you had, could be, or should be.

"So, I only have aquintances & no real friends, that's ok. I have more time for studies, hobbies, journaling  (diary), meditation on God, listening to His advice to me & those random thoughts that were floating around in my head".

Some thoughts are warnings & good advice. "Renew you license & registration",  "Pay your credit card bill", "You started the argument with mom, how can you apologize & renew the relationship?", "Turn off the TV tonight & journal for an hour about why you are upset & figure out how to bring peace to your life".

KEEP SEEKING HELP and answers until you find relief, and then as more problems come up, continue to find answers and implement them.

Every person is an individual, but most normal people pass through stages of immaturity, emotional stress, confusion, and near insanity as they grow up. The “normal” person will pass through these stages or levels of childhood within a certain time frame. Psychologists like:  Jean Piaget, Erik Erickson & Elisabeth Kubler-Ross [Two dots over “u” in Kubler.] wrote about infancy, toddlerhood, early childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. These writings can give you a good idea of where you or your children & yourself stand in comparison to others. When you never fully learn to solve some of those learning tasks in infancy, toddlerhood, childhood, adolescent, young adulthood, at the appropriate time or age, then you will feel abnormal.

Others who are astute human observers will notice that something is not right with you. Most people will “feel” that something is different in you and reject, avoid, or try to be overly nice to you. They may feel threatened, afraid, bored, depressed, when near you. That makes them feel off balance & less happy & so some will pick on you. If you aren’t keeping up with people of your own age, you are a “late bloomer” socially, mentally or emotionally then, you have two choices:

          (1) Accept yourself anyway and advance at your own pace.

          (2) Fall apart & stress yourself out.

When that doesn’t improve your situation then get help from as many people as you can. Most people with chronic physical, genetic, mental, medical, emotional, learning disabilities, & environmental stresses may have to choose solution number: one, I did. I was ashamed and still am and I don’t go around blabbing about it to just anyone. Why should I? If they can’t help me, it’s probably none of their business.

If you are continually destroying your life and you can’t do anything right, then find someone who is a rational and successful person and follow their instructions. It may take a year of two even for a professional life-coach or mentor to know you enough to guide to into success, depending on how confused and self-destructive you are. Ask them questions about their philosophy of life. What is the purpose of life, why do people act certain ways, what are they looking for in life, what are the tricks and skills you need to develop to control your mind and body? Always be forgiving, generous and kind to someone who is helping you. What else can you do?

Before you know it you will see improvements in your life & then you will copy & memorize their advice and you will learn the skill of living life more successfully. Bravo. Only the brave, the strong, the stubborn, the persistent, the hopeful, the faithful & honest can be heroic enough to conquer failures and change them into small victories.

Mental or emotional illness will affect the way you treat God, your neighbor & yourself.  Who cares how long it takes to find the right kind of help, the alternative is staying the same?

Religion is one thing with a normal spiritual person and something different with a disordered or imbalanced person.

Don't  depend on your own intuitions about religion and God if you have limited understanding or capacity to learn and understand. God gave us Churches to do the heavy lifting in theology and understanding life

A relationship with the opposite sex is difficult for a normal person & almost impossible for a stressed out person.

If you hated your father or mother, then what are you going to think about God or a future spouse in your unconscious mind? Most people aren’t even aware of what their unconscious thoughts, body language, attitudes, prejudices, fears and even their likes and dislikes are. Study your behaviors and actions and try to figure out what you are doing and what other people might see you doing & what they might think about you. That’s one way to learn about your self.

Ask yourself:  “What do I think about people who did what I did today? Do I really love God?, What is love?, Can I learn to love myself and God?, Who am I?, Is the Bible true?, Is there a true form of Christianity or is one religion as good as another?, What is the agenda of the media, government and schools for our minds, jobs and future?”

If it’s not too boring, I want to talk about my experiences and what I’ve learned about religion and Jesus Christ and my relation to him.

God didn’t cure me totally so, at first I was upset and I left Christianity. I felt if he didn’t cure me then maybe religion was a farce. I thought it couldn’t be true. I wasn’t addicted to drugs or alcohol or sex or crime, but if he cured me of something like that it might have been easier to believe in God. I was angry about God's treatment of me, but I got over it, I had to.

Did God cure St. Paul of the thorn in his side (what ever that was)? No. Did Paul pout and become an agnostic to get even with God. No. Praise God he didn’t, because he wrote much of the New Testament. If Paul had mental illness he might have given up and then come back, then left and then been involved in Greek mystery religions, and become an agnostic, then gone back to the Jewish religion, and finally come back to Jesus. If you have known mental illness and you’ve messed up your religion, know that God will forgive you, if you ask. Nothing can keep you separated from Christ’s love, when you also love & obey him.

“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38

God is fair and if you, if we do our best, and eventually learn to praise God and thank Him for our mental problems, social problems, physical problems, emotional problems & all problems, then we will reunite with Him & each other in earthly & spiritual joy & peace. These may seem like strange concepts, huh?

Judas depended on himself for his salvation, St. Peter & St. Paul depended on Jesus. Poor Judas is probably not in Heaven, let’s never follow his example. Let us seek out help from good & competant humans and from God.

 SUICIDE IS NOT AN OPTION

John, 10/15/10

Why kill yourself if you have a bad marriage?

Seperate, get couple's counseling or learn to be happy & single.

Why kill yourself because you're wearing a military uniform and you can't get away from your obligations?

Go to the base mental health clinic, stop obeying orders on the base (Not when in combat.), write your congressman, & go to jail or get a medical or dishonorable discharge. Time passes and you will get a new life.

Why kill yourself because you are the minister or priest and you got caught in a terrible sin?

Leave the church, get a regular job, teach or repent and see if you can start over.

Why kill yourself because you lost your job & you think no one likes you for yourself, only for your money?

Get a new job & new friends and family
.

Why kill yourself because someone you loved so much has died?

Keep the love alive in your memories--forever. Find someone on earth that loves you and you'll have Heavenly and earthly love.

Why kill yourself because you are in chronic physical or emotional pain?

You don't have to end it all. We all adjust to circumstances in a few months time. Find some medicines, operations or relaxation techniques, eliminate caffeine, stresses or anything that makes the pain worse. Enjoy life, laugh, meditate on perfect health on earth & in Heaven.

CONTROL YOUR THOUGHTS.  IMPLANT POSITIVE & CHEERFUL IDEAS THAT COUNTER THE NEGATIVE & DEPRESSING ONES. IT'S PART OF THE TEST. WE ARE ALL TESTED.      WILL WE GIVE UP IN DEFEAT OR START WORKING TO SUCCEED AGAIN?

ONE DAY WE WILL DIE AND WE CAN'T SUCEED OR FAIL THEN, SO DON'T GET TIRED OF THE GAME OF LIFE!!

I  give you permission not to kill yourself. I love you even if you are imperfect and failed again. God loves you even more than me and He wants to see you try and make the best of your life until the day you die, not from giving up, but when it's your time.
